Dry It Yourself Blue Gum Firewood

Our best-value way to buy Blue Gum ahead of time and do the drying yourself.

Blue Gum is a high-density hardwood that burns hotter and for longer than softer woods. Although it costs more per load than softer firewood, its longer burn time and sustained heat can make it a very cost-effective choice for winter heating.

Why choose Blue Gum?

Blue Gum is particularly well suited to customers who want long-lasting heat and excellent coals.

Because of its high density, Blue Gum performs best when added to an established fire with a good hot base. Start with Pine or a medium-density wood such as Oregon, Larch or Macrocarpa, then add Blue Gum once the fire is up to temperature.

Once established, it provides a consistent, long-burning fire, while its excellent coaling characteristics help it continue producing useful heat for an extended period.

Dry It Yourself

Our Dry It Yourself Blue Gum is cut from both old and new logs and delivered soon after splitting. Because Blue Gum is a high-density hardwood, it takes considerably longer to naturally dry than softer woods and may take up to two years to reach a suitable moisture content.

For this reason, Dry It Yourself Blue Gum is a planning-ahead option, with the earliest use generally being the second winter after purchase.

We provide detailed drying instructions to help you get the best results, but with this option you are responsible for ensuring the wood is correctly dried and stored before burning.

Wood size

We cut most of our firewood to approximately 10–12 inches (25–30cm). This is the standard size supplied with online orders.

As with all natural firewood, individual pieces will vary slightly in size and shape.
